A fast impact drives the cutting process. Deformation is concentrated in a narrow shear zone where the material separates.
The cut component is discharged and the cycle repeats. Feeding and tooling are configured for the part and production rate.

During very rapid deformation, much of the heat generated cannot dissipate from the shear zone within the duration of the process. This local heating can reduce resistance to further shearing. The workpiece does not require a separate preheating process.

There is no saw kerf between pieces. Start pieces, bar ends and rejected components can still occur in production.
